Many older facilities exist in various industries with either decommissioned ground fault monitoring equipment or unreliable ground fault solutions that are outdated. This can result in unexpected equipment damage, constantly spending resources looking for faults, and potential harm to personnel. The products below are some of the commonly used replacements for older or obsolete products. After 75 years of producing ground-fault and insulation monitoring products, many changes and advancements have occurred. The below products often have additional features that may enhance system protection, increase sensitivity, log data, and add communications. Newer Bender devices often feature universal power supplies in a broader variety of supply voltage. The products are designed with compact form factors that make them backward compatible and save installation space.

NGRM500 has a compact form factor to allow retrofit of older NGR monitors such as the Bender RC48N or the SE-325. While these products are still available on the market they do not meet AS/NZS2081 or the newest Canadian Electrical Code requirements for impedance grounded systems. The NGRM500 features open and short neutral-to-ground path detection, AC/DC ground-fault detection, communications, three output contacts with separate resistor fault and ground-fault operation and an HMI for easy configuration and display of information.
Obsolete ground-fault products or older products used on applications requiring non-sensitive pickup levels can use CMGF420 ground-fault relays with 600:1 or 1000:1 current transformer to provide protection settings from 100 -1200 A.
The RFB-700 is an ideal replacement for older Federal Pioneer devices. It was designed to be installed in the same footprint but add enhanced digital protection and communications. NGR monitoring, phase indication and feeder level ground-fault indication allow users to quickly locate ground-faults in a power distribution system. Upgrading to Bender ground-fault current sensors further enhances the protection offered and data available to the user.
Many of the IRDH or older iso series of products can be replaced with one of the varieties of the iso685 relay. This relay also replaces older “3-Light” ground fault detection systems. For specific assistance for products not listed on this page please contact our application support team.
Current transformer series have been evolving as quickly as customer loads have advanced. To enhance protection and provide wider frequency response on applications many customers have replaced their W series CT’s with CTUB-102 CT’s and an appropriate RCM or RCMS ground-fault relay. Note the W..AB Series are obsolete and are being replaced with the CTUB100 series.
