Inductive Heating

Electrical Safety for Inductive Heating and Hardening

Inductive Heating and Hardening

In the metalworking industry, modern induction furnaces are used. Through coils (inductors), these furnaces induce cyclones inside the metal workpiece to be heated. These furnaces are used for melting, forging, and hardening, among other things. For these furnaces to operate effectively, high electrical power is required.

This electrical power is taken from the electricity grid via transformers and special frequency converters (e.g., inverters). The inductors are typically water-cooled. This leads to various potential sources of ground faults, possibly resulting in unexpected production loss. Bender has developed solutions to monitor the low insulation level and promote fail-safe operation and protection. These devices facilitate that inductive heating and hardening are done efficiently and, most importantly, safely. Our ground fault protection and transformer neutral grounding solutions contributes to safe and efficient operation of modern induction furnaces in the metalworking industry.
